Annual Reporting
Annually, each employer is required to report the amount of member
contributions on earned compensation and service
credit earned during the fiscal year for each of its employees who
are STRS Ohio members.
These reports are due by the second Friday in August of each year.
Instructions for submitting the Annual Report of Member Contributions
are mailed to employers in early June. The reports may
be submitted electronically via the STRS Ohio Employer Web site, file transfer protocol (FTP) or cartridge tape.
The total contributions reported for all employees must be balanced
against the total payroll deposits for the fiscal year, including adjustments
for accrued contributions.
Accrued contributions are contributions on a compensation that is earned by June 30 of the fiscal year but not paid until after July 1. Although employers must include accrued contributions in Annual Report contribution totals, this information must also be included in a separate field in the report.
Reconciling Payroll Reports to Annual Reports
After STRS Ohio receives your Annual Report, we will compare
the total member contributions to fiscal year payroll reports to ensure
that contributions reported on the Annual Report agree with
payroll reporting.
Annual Reports = fiscal year payroll reports – prior
year accrued contributions + current year accrued contributions +/–
adjustments.
For example, a school’s 2004–2005 Annual Report
member contribution total is $200,000. This total is reconciled to
payroll reports as follows:
2004–2005 payroll reports = $190,000
2003–2004 accrued contributions = $30,00
2004–2005 accrued contributions = $40,000
$190,000 – $30,000 + $40,000 = $200,000
