STRS Ohio works with more than 1,000 employers throughout the state,
assisting with the administrative procedures involved in reporting and
maintaining accurate retirement information for STRS Ohio members.
STRS Ohio employers include:
- City & local school districts;
- County educational service centers;
- Exempted village school districts;
- Community schools;
- Joint vocational schools;
- Universities and colleges;
- County boards of mental retardation;
- developmental disabilities; and
- state of Ohio.
As an STRS Ohio reporting employer, it is important that you understand
your responsibilities as well as the rules and regulations as stated
in
Section 3307 of the Ohio Revised Code and State
Teachers Retirement Board Rules.
Your responsibilities include:
- Notifying STRS Ohio of new hires by submitting a
New Hire Notification Form and
the
Reemployed Retiree Notification
for reemployed retirees.
- Submitting the payroll reports and the required member (10%) and
employer (14%) contribution to the retirement system each payroll
period.
- Identifying member contributions as tax-deferred if an employer
pickup plan has been adopted. Member contributions are taxed if a
plan has not been adopted. Notifying STRS Ohio when a pickup plan
is modified.
- Submitting to STRS Ohio completed Deposit and Service Reports,
Withdrawal Application certifications, and the Annual
Report of Member Contributions in a timely manner. Certifying
that the contributions and service credit reported are accurate.
- Reporting changes to the employer’s address or contact information.
- Responding to STRS Ohio requests for information in a timely
manner.
