Retirement Incentive Plan for Defined Benefit Plan
Members
Member Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible to participate in the Retirement Incentive Plan, a member
must meet the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in the STRS Ohio Defined Benefit Plan.
- Be at least 50 years old.
- Be employed in an STRS Ohio-covered position.
- Be eligible for service retirement either before or after the purchase
of retirement incentive credit. Retirement qualifications are:

Service credit includes all earned credit, member-purchased credit
and employer-purchased retirement incentive credit. Effective for
retirements on or after Sept. 1, 1996, members retiring with retirement
incentive credit must pay the full cost of health care coverage
until they reach the age requirement for retiring without retirement
incentive credit.
- Retire within 90 days after receiving notice from STRS Ohio that
the employer has agreed to purchase the retirement incentive credit. The effective date of retirement must be no later than 90 days
after the expiration date of the employer’s Retirement Incentive
Plan.
- The member cannot continue employment with a secondary employer
(defined as a position with an employer that pays less than the primary
employer) and also participates in a Retirement Incentive Plan adopted
by that secondary employer under section 3307.54, Revised Code.
