Senior IT Auditor

General Summary:
Under the direction of the assistant director, Internal Audit, independently plan IT audit assignments, appraise, report, recommend and assist in the development of the organizational system of information technology controls. Responsible for all IT audits with emphasis on performing and overseeing IT technical reviews.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Assist in the development of the Annual Internal Audit Plan.
2. Independently develop the scope, audit approach and testing for each IT audit.
3. Perform automated control evaluations of the various management systems to ensure data security and integrity levels are maintained and operating system controls are functioning properly.
4. Utilize highly specialized technical knowledge to both oversee and offer independent technical judgment on overall system control levels.
5. Provide technical analysis to support evaluations of information systems policies and procedures.
6. Develop internal audit procedures, audit checklists and automated routines to review IT system controls and security issues.
7. Develop automated applications for use by audit staff in testing review areas.
8. Provide audit software training assistance to internal staff as required.
9. Independently conduct audit projects in accordance with accepted professional standards.
10. Prepare, document and summarize audit work performed.
11. Prepare audit reports and make recommendations to management.
12. Independently perform, or assist Internal Audit Management in performing special reviews as requested by the STRS Ohio Board, the executive director or senior staff.
13. Monitor and follow up on the implementation of audit recommendations and prepare status reports for Internal Audit Management and the STRS Ohio Audit Committee.
14. Assist in performing periodic reviews of internal audit departmental processes and implement value added changes to enhance efficiency of operations.
15. Interact with all levels of management in both conducting reviews and providing assistance, as required.
16. Independently complete confidential reviews at the request of management.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

1. Bachelor’s degree in IT business information systems or other related field required. CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor), CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CIA (Certified Internal Audit) designation preferred.
2. Five or more years of IT auditing experience required. Auditing experience must include three or more years of independently conducting IT audit projects. Auditing experience must include extensive IT system audits and familiarity with audit software packages. Solid familiarity with management control systems, organizational structures and information technology.
3. Proven ability to set priorities, analyze operations, solve practical problems and make recommendations to management.
4. Excellent work record of attendance and punctuality; occasional evening, weekend and non regular work hours required.
5. Excellent oral and written communication skills required.
6. Working knowledge of spreadsheet software required.
7. Interpersonal skills necessary to deal courteously and effectively in sensitive and confidential issues by telephone, in writing, and in face-to-face contacts with the public and with associates at all levels of the system.
