If you purchase non-Ohio-valued credit, waived Ohio public service or service as an Ohio school board member, you pay the full premium for health care coverage until you meet STRS Ohio retirement eligibility without the purchased service (see retirement eligibility below). This premium could exceed $600 per month for the STRS Ohio member and $1,100 per month for a member and spouse based on 2003 rates.

STRS Ohio retirement eligibility:

*If a member retires with less than 30 years of service credit and before age 65, benefits are reduced. Full benefits are paid when a member has 30 years of service credit or is age 65.
