When is the ARP Monthly Report due?
The ARP Monthly Report is due the 15th of each month for the prior month’s payroll.

May I submit an ARP Monthly Report late?
No. Employers are asked to anticipate and address issues that could cause problems, such as changing payroll systems or the absence of key personnel.

What are possible formats for submitting the ARP Monthly Report?
The ARP Monthly Report must be submitted in an electronic format. STRS Ohio accepts the report via electronic transmission or cartridge tape. Instructions for the required record layout are available in the publication Reporting STRS Ohio Employer Contributions for ARP Participants.

I just discovered that the recently submitted ARP Monthly Report is incorrect. How do I make corrections?
Contact the ARP reporting coordinator toll-free at 1-888-535-4050 to determine if you need to submit a revised report. If you have corrections for only a few ARP participants, immediately forward a letter to the ARP reporting coordinator explaining the correct reporting for each participant affected. The letter should include each participant’s name, SSN, month involved and correct contributions. If the correction results in additional contributions due, include a check or information about how the contributions due will be covered. If the correction results in a return of contributions, include a request for STRS Ohio to apply the excess contributions to future contributions due, or ask for a refund of contributions to the school.

May I report negative earnings or prior month adjustments on the ARP Monthly Report?
No. Adjustments to prior months, positive or negative, should be handled separately. To correct a report from a prior month, send a letter to the ARP reporting coordinator explaining the correct reporting for each participant affected.

Are employees who have elected an ARP included in payroll reports?
Until newly hired employees make their retirement plan election, they should be included in payroll reports. If an employee selects STRS Ohio as his or her retirement plan, payroll reporting should be continued for as long as that employee remains employed. The employee should also be reported on the Annual Report.

If an employee elects an ARP provider, the amounts included in the payroll reports during the employee’s election period will be transferred to the ARP provider based on certifications completed by the employer on the election form. Once the ARP is elected, the employee should no longer be included in payroll reporting — he or she should be reported with the monthly ARP report.

Do I still have to notify STRS Ohio of newly hired ARP eligible faculty twice, once within 10 days as a new employee, and then again separately as a new employee eligible to elect an ARP?
No. You need only notify STRS Ohio once of a newly hired employee. You should indicate if they are ARP-eligible at the time of notification.

Do I still have to send STRS Ohio a 10-day new hire notification for an employee that elects an ARP within 10 days of being hired?
Yes. You must notify STRS Ohio of all newly hired employees within 10 days of their first date on payroll. New hire notification is necessary for other reasons beyond establishing STRS Ohio membership.
