Why do I need an STRS Ohio employer number?
It uniquely identifies you as an STRS Ohio employer and allows us
to provide you with better service.
How do I obtain an STRS Ohio employer number?
Complete the
Request for STRS Ohio Employer Number
form and send it STRS Ohio. Upon receipt, STRS Ohio will issue
an employer number and send a confirmation letter. Please review the
confirmation letter and begin using your employer number on all correspondence
sent to STRS Ohio.
New Hire Notification
What should I do as an employer when I hire a new teacher?
You must notify STRS Ohio of newly hired teachers within 10
business days of their first date on payroll by submitting a new hire notification or reemployed retiree notification.
What information is required for the new hire notification?
Employee’s name, gender, Social Security number, birth
date, address and first date on payroll.
Why does STRS Ohio need this information?
STRS Ohio uses this information to communicate the different retirement
plan options available to that specific member. It is also used for actuarial calculations.
Payroll Reporting
What are payroll reports?
Payroll reports are reports that show the member contributions by
individual member after each payroll period.
What information must the payroll report include?
Reports must include: employer number, pay date, member Social Security
number, name and pretax or after-tax member contributions for that pay
period.
When are the payroll reports & corresponding member contributions
due to STRS Ohio?
Payroll reports and payments are due within five business days of the
pay date. Interest and penalties may be assessed for late reports
or contributions.
