Service Retirement for Defined Benefit Plan Members

Member Eligibility Requirements
A member enrolled in the Defined Benefit Plan is eligible for service retirement if one of the following three criteria is met:

  • Any age with 30 or more years of service credit; or
  • Age 55 or older with 25 or more years of service credit; or
  • Age 60 or older with five or more years of service credit.

If a member retires with less than 30 years of service credit and before age 65, there is an actuarial reduction in the benefit. Full benefits are paid when a member has 30 years of service credit or is age 65.

If a member leaves Ohio public service and does not withdraw the STRS Ohio account, he or she will be eligible to receive a benefit upon reaching the age and service criteria.
