Survivor Benefits

Defined Contribution Plan Eligibility
Members enrolled in the Defined Contribution Plan are ineligible for STRS Ohio’s survivor benefits program. However, the beneficiaries have the defined contribution account balance available to them. A spouse may continue to manage the member’s defined contribution account or withdraw the account. If there are multiple survivors, the survivors must withdraw the account.
