Express Scripts Data Breach Does Not Appear to Involve STRS Ohio Members

As noted in an STRS Ohio Web site posting on Nov. 7, 2008, Express Scripts reported that it had received an extortion letter threatening to expose millions of patient records. STRS Ohio has been notified by Express Scripts that the data that is in jeopardy is most likely from a period prior to STRS Ohio contracting with Express Scripts to serve as its pharmacy benefits manager for the Aetna, Medical Mutual and Paramount health care plans. Therefore, it appears no STRS Ohio membership data is at risk. Express Scripts has launched a Web site (www.esisupports.com) that includes additional information about the investigation.
