| Five Ohio Educators
Chosen as Retirement Board Candidates
During a meeting of the State Teachers Retirement Board Election
Committee on Aug. 6, 2004, five individuals were nominated for
the vacant active teacher seat on the board that resulted from
the retirement of Jack Chapman in June.
The candidates for the seat are as follows:
- Thomas E. Hall, professor of economics at Miami University
(Oxford) and a resident of Cincinnati;
- F. James Norris II, 8th grade American history
teacher with the Lebanon City Schools (Lebanon) and a resident
of Lebanon;
- M. Margaret Porter, 6th grade science and math
teacher with the Northern Local Schools (Thornville) and a resident
of Thornville;
- Constance Ramser, special learning needs teacher with the
Jackson Local Schools (Massillon) and a resident of Canton;
and
- William G. Soltis Jr., founder and chief education officer
of The Arts and College Preparatory Academy (Columbus) and a
resident of Columbus.
All individuals who submitted letters of interest for the vacant
seat were nominated.
Each candidate will be asked to submit biographical information
for the Retirement Board members to review. During the board’s
Election Committee meeting on Thursday, Aug. 19, the board will
interview each candidate. Then, at its regularly scheduled meeting
on Friday, Aug. 20, the board members will elect the new member.
The term for this seat on the Retirement Board runs through Aug.
31, 2006.
