Retirement Board Appointments
On Sept. 28, 2004, Gov. Bob Taft announced his two appointments
to the State Teachers Retirement Board. Recently passed Am. Sub.
S.B. 133, which went into effect on Sept. 14, 2004, included language
enabling the governor to name a retired teacher to the board,
as well as an investment expert. Judith D. Fisher, a resident
of Bexley, Ohio, was appointed as the investment expert for a
four-year term ending Sept. 28, 2008. Fisher received her bachelor
of arts degree from Hood College and did postgraduate studies
at several universities including the University of Pittsburgh,
Johns Hopkins University and Northwestern University. She is retired
from the position of chief financial officer for Huntington Bancshares,
Inc.
W. David Speas, a Springfield, Ohio, resident, was named to the
new retired teacher seat on the board. Speas has a bachelor of
arts degree in elementary education from Heidelberg College and
has done graduate work at Bowling Green State University and the
University of Dayton. He worked more than 30 years as an educator,
primarily with the Springfield Local Schools. His term on the
board runs through Aug. 31, 2005.
