Retirement Board Appointee Named
On Dec. 2, Treasurer of State Joseph T. Deters announced his
appointment to the State Teachers Retirement Board. Joining the
board will be Dr. Stephen A. Buser. Buser is a retired professor
of finance from The Ohio State University, where he also served
terms as chair of the Department of Finance (1994–2002)
and as associate dean for the Fisher College of Business (1995–2001).
He began his 27-year teaching career at the university in 1975
as an assistant professor of finance. Among his other duties at
OSU, Dr. Buser developed a nationally acclaimed program in investment
management in which OSU students now invest more than $20 million
of the university’s endowment. He has had many articles
published on topics such as investments, the stock market and
the economy, and has also served on the editorial boards for various
academic journals including the Journal of Finance. He received
his bachelor’s degree in economics from Princeton University
and his doctorate in economics from Boston College. He resides
in Columbus, Ohio. His appointment extends through Dec. 2, 2008.
With this appointment, the Retirement Board now has the 11 members
specified in Am. Sub. S.B. 133, which was passed by the Ohio Legislature
earlier this year.
