It’s Time to Get Your Flu Vaccine

Getting an annual flu vaccine is the first and best way to protect yourself and your family from the flu. The flu vaccination can reduce flu illnesses, deaths, doctors’ visits and missed activities due to flu, as well as prevent flu-related hospitalizations. All STRS Ohio medical plans cover the flu vaccine, including the high-dose injection, as a preventive service at no cost to you.

If your provider requires payment when you receive the flu vaccine, submit a claim form with a paid receipt to your plan and you will be reimbursed. Please visit your plan's website or call the toll-free customer service number on the back of your ID card to obtain a claim form.

For the 2017–2018 season, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends use of the flu shot. The nasal spray flu vaccine, FluMist, should not be used this year due to concerns about its effectiveness. If you have any questions about the flu vaccine, please ask your doctor or pharmacist.
