A common misconception is that Ohio educators do not qualify for Medicare because they did not contribute to Social Security. In fact, you are eligible for Medicare when you turn age 65 even if you are not eligible for Social Security benefits. STRS Ohio requires you to sign up for Medicare Parts A & B or Part B-only at age 65 or earlier if you qualify.
Understanding Medicare and its requirements can sometimes be confusing. This program will provide an overview of the “parts” of Medicare, the importance of signing up, when and how to enroll, how Medicare enrollment affects your STRS Ohio health care plan options and how to select a new STRS Ohio health care plan after Medicare enrollment. We’ll conclude with information specific to new Medicare enrollees and address your questions.
This program is offered at locations throughout Ohio and advance registration is required. You may register by:
- Logging in to your Online Personal Account and clicking on “Schedule an Upcoming Meeting” under “Your Account and Benefits,” or
- Calling STRS Ohio toll-free at 888‑227‑7877.
Meetings will be held from 6–8 p.m. This program is also offered as a webinar.
