We’re Implementing New Steps to Increase Security and Member Privacy Protection

Effective Wednesday, Dec. 18, STRS Ohio will begin using multifactor authentication (MFA) for Employer Self Service (ESS) access. MFA is an additional layer of security to protect member information.

The first time you log in to ESS on or after Dec. 18, you will need to complete a few simple steps after entering your user name and password:

  1. 1. Select an “authentication code delivery method” from the contact information STRS Ohio has on file for your user account. Delivery method options are:

    • Phone call,
    • Email, or
    • Text message, if your cell phone number is on file (standard messaging rates may apply).
  2. Enter the authentication code you receive in your email or text, or follow the phone prompts if you selected to be called.

If you select “remember this device” after successfully authenticating your account, STRS Ohio will “remember” that device (e.g., your desktop computer, tablet or smartphone) and browser and you can bypass the authentication process for six months.

STRS Ohio does not recommend using the “remember this device” option if you are accessing ESS from a shared computer.

If you experience any issues logging in to ESS using MFA, contact the Employer Reporting Department toll-free at 888‑535‑4050 or send an email to [email protected].
