Verification of Employment and Access to Employer Health Coverage Required
Coverage under the STRS Ohio Health Care Program is limited for non-Medicare enrollees employed in public or private positions. To determine eligibility, STRS Ohio requires non-Medicare health care plan enrollees to verify their employment status and access to employer health coverage annually. Enrollees will be notified the month before their birthday when it’s time to complete the verification process.
Enrollees with an email address on file with STRS Ohio will receive an email with instructions to submit the verification using their Online Personal Account. When you receive the email, promptly log in to your Online Personal Account to complete the verification process.
If you do not have an email address on file, you will receive a letter asking you to register for an Online Personal Account and submit your verification online. You must provide verification to avoid cancellation of your STRS Ohio medical and prescription drug coverage. If you do not respond within 60 days of the initial notification, your STRS Ohio coverage will be canceled.
As a reminder, employed enrollees are eligible only for secondary health care coverage through STRS Ohio’s Basic Plan if they: (1) are eligible for medical and prescription drug coverage through their employer, or (2) hold a position for which other similarly situated employees are eligible for medical and prescription drug coverage at the same cost as full-time employees. The rule applies to all employed enrollees who are not eligible for Medicare, regardless of hire date or type of employment.
