State Teachers Retirement Board Cancels April Meeting, Urges Members to Follow Ohio Department of Health’s Directives

STRS Ohio continues to monitor the state of Ohio’s guidelines to limit the spread of COVID-19 and urges our members and benefit recipients to do the same. The latest updates indicate the number of cases of COVID-19 will continue to rise dramatically in the days and weeks ahead. With this in mind, The State Teachers Retirement Board has cancelled its meeting scheduled for April 16. The Retirement Board and system staff will evaluate in the weeks ahead whether or not to hold the May Retirement Board meeting and will explore options to hold the meeting using technology rather than in person.

STRS Ohio also announced that offices will remain closed to the public through May 1. Only a small number of staff members are working at the Broad Street office at this time, completing tasks that cannot be done remotely. The rest of STRS Ohio’s staff members are working from home and providing the quality services that our members expect and deserve. April benefit payments were made on time and our Member Service Representatives are available to take member calls. Benefit applications continue to be processed, with online forms being the best option. One-on-one retirement counseling appointments are available by teleconference and STRS Ohio Member Education seminars are now offered as online webinars.
