System Overview
- STRS Ohio serves about 500,000 active, inactive and retired Ohio public educators, providing about $7.1 billion in annual benefits — most of which is paid to Ohio residents. These educators are not covered by the federal Social Security system.
- Total fund assets as of June 30, 2022, were approximately $88.8 billion (including short-term investments). Prudent and experienced fund management is essential to meet investment objectives and pay monthly benefits.
- STRS Ohio is one of the nation’s largest pension funds and is governed by elected and appointed board members, with oversight from the Ohio Retirement Study Council, the Ohio General Assembly and various external audits.
