STRS Ohio is adding Express Scripts’ SaveOnSP program on March 1, 2021, to help medical plan enrollees without Medicare save money on certain specialty medications and reduce the overall pressure specialty medications put on premiums.
Express Scripts is mailing letters to STRS Ohio non-Medicare enrollees who are taking medications on the SaveOnSP Drug List. To sign up for the program, call SaveOnSP toll-free at 800-683-1074 before March 1 to avoid delays in obtaining your prescriptions after the program starts. (If you start taking an eligible medication after March 1, you will be invited to join the program when the prescription is filled.)
Specialty medications on the SaveOnSP Drug List will be available for a $0 copayment for non-Medicare enrollees who sign up for the SaveOnSP program. If you are currently taking a medication on the list, you will need to sign up before March 1 to be eligible for the cost savings when the program takes effect.
Participation in the SaveOnSP program is voluntary. However, if you choose not to sign up, you will be responsible for the much higher copayment listed on the SaveOnSP Drug List. Let’s take a look at how this works:
Sara is taking a medication on the SaveOnSP Drug List with a $1,000 copayment. If Sara signs up for the SaveOnSP program, she will pay $0 for the medication. However, if she chooses not to participate, she will pay the $1,000 copayment.
As you can see, Sara can save a significant amount of money by participating in the program.
After you sign up for the SaveOnSP program, your prescriptions will still be filled through your current specialty pharmacy, Acreedo, or other approved pharmacy. These medications will not count toward your deductible or out-of-pocket maximum.
If you have any questions or would like more information, please call SaveOnSP toll-free at 800-683-1074. Representatives are available Monday–Thursday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Friday, 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. EST.
