Aetna Medicare Plan Enrollees Should Schedule a Free In-Home Health Visit

Every year, about 400,000 Aetna Medicare Advantage members take part in the Healthy Home Visit program. The annual in-home assessment, which is free for STRS Ohio Aetna Medicare Plan members, is safely provided by a licensed and board-certified nurse practitioner or doctor.

We understand you may have concerns about inviting a stranger into your home. Rest assured, these home visits are safe and are supported by Aetna and STRS Ohio. Virtual visits may also be available.

Why an In-Home Health Visit Is Important

Taking care of your health is more than just visiting the doctor when you’re sick. This is why Aetna Medicare Plan enrollees are encouraged to participate in Aetna’s Healthy Home Visit program. This free, convenient service allows you to safely meet with a licensed and board-certified nurse practitioner or doctor once a year in the privacy of your home to talk about your individual needs.

While the assessment does not take the place of regular doctor visits, it can be a critical part of managing your health at home. You can use this yearly visit to:

• Ask health questions
• Review your medicines and dosages
• Receive recommendations for health resources you may need
• Discuss how to set up a safe, healthy home

The visit lasts about an hour and includes a noninvasive physical exam. A family member or friend may be present. After the visit, you and your doctor will receive a summary of your assessment.

You will receive a letter in the mail with the Aetna and STRS Ohio Health Care Program logo inviting you to participate in the Healthy Home Visit program.
